About this eBook

An Alpha commander rules over a violent planet until a lowly breeder slave changes his world.

Commander Dak, is one of five rulers of planet Parseon, a caste society that has enslaved its women and outlawed love. As Alpha he is responsible for maintaining the “Protocol” in his province. In need of an heir to secure his legacy, he purchases a female breeding slave intending to impregnate her, produce a son, and then discard her.

But the gentle Omra instead bears a quiet strength and perceptiveness that opens his eyes to brutality and arbitrary nature of Parseon culture. As Dak falls in love with her, he begins to question the truths he once held immutable.

But the commander has powerful enemies who won’t hesitate use his devotion to Omra against him and deem him unfit to rule.

Can he expose the cruelty and lies in Parseon culture or will the Protocol he's spent his life defending be the weapon used to destroy Omra and their love?

Breeder is the powerful, edgy first book of the dark science fiction romance Breeder series.

Verdict: Predictable, dull & spoiled by formatting issues, which make the text nearly unreadable. Analysis: It's a kinda standard women-as-chattel dystopia, but I'd be fine with that if the writing & characters were absorbing. Unfortunately the writing is poor, the characters cardboard-ish & the sex... kinda dull. It's not helped by weird formatting on the Google Play Books mobile app. In the Flowing Text setting, most of the paragraph breaks disappear, which leaves parts of the story as one large and confusing lump of text, especially when there's dialogue. The Original Pages setting restores the paragraphs but the text is way too small for comfortable reading. I'm not sure if I'll bother with the rest of the series if the formatting issue continues.

It was an entertaining quick read, although a little predictable throughout the plot. I will read the next one in the series when I see it on sale.
