About this ebook

Enter the Teutonic Fantasy Realm in this enchanting urban fantasy featuring elemental witches and time travel.

“I generally write the truth in my chronicles, for historians should not lie, though sometimes they misinform.”

I’m back in the twenty-first century, but it looks like my old life has dissolved. My cousin isn’t talking to me, Joel’s forsaking the mere idea of Teutonic magic, and Hans—my former crush—doubts my faith since I explored the dark path during my travels. Sure, maybe I offered my heart to a demon’s servant, but that doesn’t change anything about who I am. Right?

Now I’m torn between a sizzling urge to run back to my past lover Augustin and a loathsome destiny that pulls me toward a fated mate. My people expect me to ascend as an elegant matron, but I haven’t finished college yet. And it’s not like I can broadcast the fact that I spent twenty years in the eleventh century. Time travel brought about my people’s destruction once, and I can’t let that happen again.

It’d be a lot easier to just spurn my duties and flee to my medieval lover. But this fated mate thing is breathing down my neck, scratching at my peace—and Augustin claims our destinies are separate now. My heart isn’t ready for this . . . .

INTRIGUE AT ITS BEST IN CRYPTIC PATHWAY Swanie returns to the 21st century and brings her 11th century best friend Freia with her. The human drama begins immediately as her old mentor, Hans Meissner, views with disquieting concern all the returnees from the 11th century excursion who have reappeared right at the spot where they had departed. Hans could sense by observation alone that tragedy attended the return of these young adventurers. As the story unfolds, Freia discovers right away that she is not in any way equipped to live in the future. She also deeply misses her children and finds out her husband survived the cataclysmic collapse of old Muniche. With this intelligence in hand, she quickly exits the story returning to her own time. Along with this are two other troubling affairs. The unceremonious departure of both Joel and her cousin Beth from her life as Joel realizes Swanie has no wish to continue their 11th century marriage relationship into the future, and Beth becomes disgusted with Joel, her former boyfriend and refuses to speak with Swanie. This leaves Swanie alone to sort out several things, including her new position as Lady of Muniche in her own time, the mysterious reticence of her keyholder who refuses to identify himself, and the unexpected visits of her chosen lover Augustin, who has come to the future himself in the spirit realm. She finds little comfort in Hans, who is more suspicious of the outcome of her time travel adventure than he is sympathetic. She also must inform her father, who all his life has spurned Teuton magic, that she has not only dabbled in Teuton magic against his wishes but has now become the city’s chosen lady. Finally, she must now face the worst possible scenario, the complete and forever severance from Augustin when the identity of her modern day keyholder becomes known and her attachment to him becomes inevitable. She becomes keenly aware that the breaking of a Teuton heart bond is no simple matter. Along the way are several meetings of an explosive nature between various antagonists. The author’s handling of these encounters is second to none.
