Darktide, this last book in Christine Pope’s Witches of Cleopatra Hill series is a rollercoaster of chills and thrills. I really loved this book, and the whole series, so I’m actually a little depressed that it’s now officially over. There will, however, be a spinoff series and the first book will be out in the next couple of months. I’ll have to somehow find a way to adapt. 😉 Darktide is about the final struggle of Angela, Connor and others against the warlock Joaquin Escobar. Escobar has taken over the Santiago clan in Southern California and intends to strike at the united clans of Arizona and New Mexico as restitution for the death of his son Matias. And, unfortunately, he has a lot of power at his command, both his own and the clans he has taken over. This is a struggle for survival for all the clans he plans to attack. It might even abolish the code that all witches and warlocks have: to not let civilians (non-magical people) know that there are people among them that have access to powers they can only dream about. One of the things that impressed me so much about this book is how skillfully Ms. Pope writes as she blends in Angela’s voice as well as many other people’s who have appeared in past books of this series. It was so much fun to see the voices of these old “friends” that I had read about in different books. The author balances all of these voices with deceptively simple ease. I could go on and on about how much I love this book and series but the best advice I can give anyone is to jump in and experience all the wonders of it. I promise that it’ll be a great ride.

Angela McAllister and Connor Wilcox had their happily ever after. Now the parents of 5yr old twins and finding out there is a new baby on the way they should be ecstatic. But when an allied pack loses one of their own and send out a plea for assistance, they can't ignore it. A de la Paz clan member, who was a private investigator, died in supernatural circumstances and Angela and Connor, along with a few other clan members decide to assist. But this is no ordinary enemy, demon or warlock. It is going to take the entire clan and all their misaligned "talents" to save not only themselves but the civilians around them. Levi is back and just as badass as ever. He is such a jack of all trades, just what this emergency needs. I loved the overriding sense of danger throughout this book. All the loose ends were tied up and even though I was sad to see this series end, I was happy to see that there is going to be an offshoot series soon! Superb as usual!

Pretty pissed that I bought the book and STILL only get the sample. Tells me I "already own this item" but won't let me read it.
