About this ebook

Is the Heat a deadly fever…or a fiery desire that could save them both?

Deirdre Graves got lucky. When the Heat, a djinn-created virus, wiped out most of humanity, she was isolated at her university’s wildlife research station high in the mountains. Safe...for the moment.

But with winter closing in and her choices narrowing down to freezing or starving, she builds a device that could save her life. Trouble is, the only way to find out if it works is to leave her sanctuary and face the djinn.

One moment, Amaal al-Tariq is exploring his newly acquired mountain lands — or, more accurately, his place of exile. The next, he’s flat on his face, trapped by one delicate human woman carrying a device capable of rendering him helpless.

Regaining what is most precious to him — his freedom — means gaining Deirdre’s trust. If that means using the attraction simmering between them to his advantage, so be it. He just never expected her courage and compassion to reach the one thing he’s kept to himself for so long...his heart.

I like the chemistry between Amaal and Deirdre but I have difficulty with the underlying premise of the book. The Djinn destroying most of humanity to "cleanse" the Earth so the Djinn can re-inhabit it really bothers me. I wish Deirdre had made more effort to confirm the status of her family especially after she became involved with Amaal and her safety and travelling were not issues. I did like flow of the book but for me this is more of a survival story with a love story along for the ride. I also appreciated how Amaal was forthcoming about his lack of involvement in the "Heat" but taking responsibility for not being vocal about denouncing it. I also liked Deirdre's survival instincts both before meeting Amaal and when she thought she needed to run. I am looking forward to the next book in the series since I am now invested in the outcome.

Deirdre made it through the Heat, whilst her fellow students died around her. She has survived by hiding out at the Wildlife station attached her university. She came across Miles broadcast on how to build the Djinn suppression device and feels a mite safer during her excursions to seek food. Straying further than usual she comes across, Amaal and Shanghai's him back to the wildlife station. Now at a loss what to do with her captive, Deidre finds herself in a bit of a quandary. Amaal doesn't seem to be the boogie man that the Djinn were painted as and she fins herself drawn to him. Amaal convinces Deidre to go with him to his cabin and they soon are comfortable with each other. But how will Deidre react when she realises that Amaal found her suppression device and he has been free of its influence for some time? Strong characters who play off each others strengths and weaknesses. Amaal again is a djinn who is kind of ambivalent to humans. He didn't want them all to die but he didn't go out of his way to save them either! Great story and can't wait to see what happens next!

Loved this story! I absolutely love, loved this story! The author has penned another fantastic addition to her Djinn Dominion Series. These stories are a cross between an apocalypse tale and mythical fantasy that will keep you intrigued and on edge to find out what happens next. There’s a lot of romance and suspense in this story that will lead you to anxiously await the next book in the series. I highly recommend this paranormal romance to be your next read. This is a voluntary and well-deserved review of a free copy received from the author.
