           The great Indian epic Mahabharata is a deeply rooted saga in every Indian sole. There are so many characters in Mahabharata but the character of great warrior Karna is highly captivating character who appeals the readers and as well as creative artists all the time.

The Karna was belongs to royal family, though he faced humiliation in his whole life. Throughout his life he fought with established social hierarchy of caste system and proved his endeavour. Perhaps this tragic aspect of his life allures to authors.

So many novels, poems and dramas have been written on this theme. Still the character of Karna attracts the authors and readers.

The novel Dharmyuddha is a remarkable masterpiece written by Dr. Ravindra Thakur who presented this story totally in new perspective. While writing the novel Dharmayuddha Dr. Thakur has discarded the entire mythological elements intruded in this story and portrayed the character of Karna as a common man who fought against the humiliation and achieves his merit which he deserves as a great warrior.

Even today also so many Karnas are facing this type of humiliation that’s why the story of Karna is a source of inspiration and representative of all those Karnas.

महाभारतातील कर्ण या व्यक्तिरेखेने नानाविध पैलूंमुळे अनेक कलावंतांना भुरळ घातली आहे. कोणालाही लाजवेल अशी क्षमता, योग्यता आणि सामथ्र्य असूनही पदोपदी डावलला गेलेला कर्ण हे तेजोभंगाचे जिवंत प्रतीक आहे. अखंड संघर्षाने जीवनभर होरपळून निघालेल्या या व्यक्तिमत्त्वाचा वेध घेण्याचा प्रयत्न अनेकांनी आपल्या पद्धतीने केला आहे. कवचकुंडले, संजयाची दिव्यदृष्टी, श्रीकृष्णाचे सुदर्शनचक्र, त्याचा गोवर्धन पर्वत बोटावर उचलण्याचा पराक्रम, द्रौपदीच्या वस्त्रहरणप्रसंगी कृष्णाकडून तिला पुरविण्यात आलेली वस्त्रे अशा अनेक चमत्कृतिपूर्ण घटनांची साखळी महाभारतात आढळते. तरीही तत्कालीन वर्णव्यवस्थेविरुद्ध वेळोवेळी बंड पुकारणारा कर्ण इतर अनेक सामथ्र्यशाली व्यक्तिरेखांच्या भाऊगर्दीत प्रकर्षाने नजरेत भरतो.

 या कथेतील सर्वच व्यक्तिरेखा मानवी संसारातील सुखदुःखे अनुभवत असल्याची जाणीव होते. ही माणसेही आपल्यासारखीच संसारातील समस्यांना सामोरी जाताना दिसतात. नेमका हाच दृष्टिकोन स्वीकारून आणि पारंपरिक दृष्टी निग्रहाने अव्हेरून कर्णकथेचा वेध घेणारी रवींद्र ठावूâर यांची ‘धर्मयुद्ध’ ही कादंबरी. इतर मराठी कादंबNयांमध्ये चित्रित झालेल्या कर्णापेक्षा ‘धर्मयुद्ध’मधील कर्ण मातीचे पाय असलेल्या व्यक्तिरेखांच्या अधिक जवळचा आहे.
