Prometheus is the celestial being from the Greek mythology. He underwent immense pain and agony to develop the human culture. V. S. ग्रीक दंतकथेतील प्रॉमिथिअस म्हणजे मानव कल्याणार्थ व्यथा, वेदना सहन करून साहसाने मनुष्य संस्कृतीचा विकास करणारा दिव्यपुरुष होय. वि. स. खांडेकरांना महात्मा गांधीचं जीवन व व्यक्मित्त्व हे प्रॉमिथिअससारखं वाटत आलंय. ते गांधीजींना विसाव्या शतकातील प्रॉमिथिअस मानत. त्या अर्थाने गांधीजी दुसरे प्रॉमिथिअस होत. खांडेकरांनी गांधी जन्मशताब्दीच्या निमित्ताने लिहिलेल्या या संग्रहातील लेखनातून गांधीजी प्रॉमिथिअसची तळमळ घेऊन आपणापुढे येतात. सारा देश मूल्यNहासाने होरपळत असताना सदाचाराची सदाफुली रुजवणारे गांधींचे व्यक्तिमत्त्व या लेखातून वाचकांच्या मनात आशेची नवी ऊर्मी निर्माण करतात. गांधीजींचे जीवन व विचार नव्या अंगाने समजावून सांगणारा खांडेकरांचा हा लेखसंग्रह कर्मकांडाच्या जागी कर्मयोग रूजवू इच्छिणाऱ्या वाचकाच्या मनात सामाजिक धर्मबुद्धी जागवणारं आगळं महात्मायन होय. धर्म, जात, देश इत्यादि संदर्भातील संकीर्ण जाणिवा जोपासू पाहणाऱ्या मूलतत्तवादी विचारांचा पराभव घडवून आणायचा तर हा ‘दुसरा प्रॉमिथिअस’ समजून घ्यायलाच हवा.
