Book 13, wow! Mavericks are on a roll and this one is Diesels run. HIs back up is Jericho. I have to say I enjoyed this one, it was more natural instead of the trade mark teasing of meeting their partner. This one was intense, Diesel goes to rescue the scientist, Eva being held in China. If that's not a challenge enough, when they arrive they find 2 more people to rescue. The trek to freedom is fraught with turns, surprises and loss. A quick read that entertains and has a HEA. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

This is the 13th book in the brilliant Maverick series. The Mavericks are a highly trained team of ex military men who work outside the restraints of the military, they work in pairs with all the backup, intel and equipment that they may need. Diesel Edwards task takes him to China to rescue a kidnapped scientist, it was Diesels chance to lead and his backup was to be Jerricho Hickory. Eva Longston, an epidemiologist, was working on a cure for a new virus when she was kidnapped along with two other scientists, was she to be held for ransom ? was someone trying to steal her work ? Diesel and Jerricho didn't have any answers, especially when they discovered that the Russians were also involved. The rescue of Eva and her two colleagues is an action packed, fast paced story full of suspense, the zig zagging journey over land sea and air was fraught with danger and the body count was escalating. Diesel liked Eva from the start and he would protect her with his life. This is a great story with plenty of action and a blossoming romance, the author cleverly leads into the next story in the series and I can't wait to read Jerricho's story. Things look pretty dicey when Diesel and Jericho first arrive and attempt their rescue not only because they don't know exactly where Ava is but also it appears they aren't the only ones after the scientists her are being help captive. I loved how Eva speaks her mind and is a straight shooter so you know exactly what's on her mind but gets on with it if she knows it is a means to an end like doing as Diesel and Jericho say as they are her best bet at freedom. This read has plenty of tense times where the bad guys seem to be a step ahead but you don't know how and feel like they will never get to freedom as well as some light hearted and fun moments as well as an attraction that build up to the point it can't be ignored and all of this makes for a fantastic read that sucks you in from the get go.
