I've read every Dry Creek book in this series and love them all. You don't have read them to read this book, however. Each book can be read without reading the others. The characters in this book are people who have been let down in life, especially family. Mark doesn't even have a family and Bailey has a darling 5 year old daughter, Rosie, and is pregnant but her dead husband was a jerk. Mark comes back to Dry Creek when his foster father passes away and leaves him an inheritance. He and Bailey were childhood friends and Mark wants to help Bailey in her current condition. I loved the secondary characters, they added a lot to the story. Rosie was darling! A story that makes you think about the importance of family and being kind to others.
