Victim Advocate AJ Ferguson and Detective Mac McDougal strike sparks off each other. No one can push Mac’s buttons harder than AJ, and no one can get under AJ’s skin faster than Mac. Although they may butt heads, when it comes to protecting the defenseless, they’re both on the same side. And when AJ’s life is threatened, Mac’s determined to keep her by his side, whether she’s willing or not. You know where there’s sparks there’s bound to be a fire and add in some serious chemistry, and you just may have a blaze of passion too hot to stop. Unfortunately, AJ and Mac have serious trust issues caused by their pasts, which creates an emotional roller coaster with a few dramatic twists and turns. Factor in some serious matters of domestic abuse and open threats to AJ’s safety, and this makes for a gripping, suspenseful tale that will keep you captivated from beginning to end.

4.5 stars. I have really enjoyed this story, the characters were developed and the story held my interest. I love the growth of AJ and Mac's relationship, the back and forth, the honesty, trust, chemistry and connection between them. I would like to read more of them as I really liked them as a couple. This is a new author for me and one I would read again, especially after reading the sneak peak to book two in this new series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mac And A.J. are both strong and determined people and even though Mac takes a bit to warm up to you really like them as well as those that surround them which draws you into the story even more. I really enjoyed the highs and lows as well as suspense of not knowing when the killer might appear and the attraction Mac and A.J. have is fantastic, you get drawn in easily and are turning the page needing to know what will happen to everyone! This is the first book in the series and it was a great start to it ensuring I wanted to read the next book in the series as soon a I got to the end and was stoked to see there are another 2 books.
