This was a great addition to the series! Given the historical setting, women were seen as having less rights than the men. Mary's father saw to it that his daughters would not be dependant upon a man but rather free to lead a happy life, whatever form that took. Mary intended to pursue learning and personal growth, and to shun all thoughts of marriage as she saw it as having to give up part (or all) of herself for her husband's interests/pursuits. Stephen was in no hurry to wed himself. He knew it was expected...no, required. It was a struggle for him to get to meet and know people interested in him, not his title or wealth. What should have been a luxury was in truth much more a burden to carry. When he met Mary at Mrs. B's, and she did not know him, he quite enjoyed getting to know her on a personal and intellectual level (rather than dealing with his title and all that entails). Would anything come of the time they spent together? How would Mary react when she learns his title?

Oh my gosh! I’m loving everything about this series, and I already can’t wait to get my hands on the next story. Mary and Stephen are adorable together and Mary’s naivete is presented in such a sweetly charming way, I couldn’t help but giggle. I loved that this pair comes together over their intellectual pursuits and a mutual respect for one another’s intelligence. It was utterly precious to watch their hearts take over from their heads.
