I can't really deny that this book has its flaws. It's a first novel. But damn, the characters and scenario are great. This is the second time I've read it. And I wouldn't rule out returning to it. The one thing I love about the book, some of the characters are self proclaimed cowards, but they end up rising above fear and doing exceptionally brave things when inspired. I think there's a lot to learn from Druss. The other Druss books are great, as well as White Wolf (which Druss turns up in) and Winter Warriors.

I have yet to find another author that immerses me so deeply into a book. Since reading pretty much all of gemmell books it's hard to find a author that matches hi caliber. If your unsure about fantasy then pick up a book by this guy and you will want time read more. True legend in heroic fantasy

As a child, Druss was my very first introduction to what a hero looked like. He was innocent as a dove but cunning as a snake, kind of heart yet ferocious in battle, a man of few words yet boisterous and the life of the party. If you are undecided and wonder what you'll find within these pages, the title says it all. Here you will find a man who was wise yet fallible, strong but tender, humble yet proud. Here you'll find a Legend.
