Buku ini, berisi petuah (nasehat) kehidupan, yang disampaikan oleh kakek saya, Kyai Soedjak Sastrowijoto pada suatu komunitas diskusi kehidupan, di Batavia Centrum (Jakarta Pusat), tahun 1936. Sedangkan isterinya (nenek saya), Nyai Soedjak Sastrowijoto mencatat dan menulis apa yang disampaikan dalam diskusi tersebut, khususnya dalam hal penyampaian suatu wejangan atau petuah saat terjadi 'kesripahan' (kematian) pada suatu keluarga atau kerabat. Petuah atau nasehat ini, merupakan bagian dari ajaran Ilmu Beja, yang diterima kakek, nenek, dan ibunda saya; dari kakek buyut Kanjeng Kyai Ageng Surjo Metaram, dari Desa Bringin, Sala-Tiga.
