I think it fanstastic. Derek has mastered the art of dialogue to keep his
characters likeable, witty and thouroughly humourous. But fair to say i
found the story a bit disjointed and does amble on without much substance
for the first half. But it is ultimately redeemed with an interesting
villain and one hell of a second half.

I've been reading the Skulduggery books for 11years now, since I was a kid. I love everything about them, every other book is 10/10 stars. Only this one I just felt compelled to say that I really didn't dig the ending, it seemed to go on forever and most of the new characters for one reason or the another I barely cared for. I feel the book was rushed in that sense. Might be because of just how Epic the 9th book was. This 2nd phase has a lot to live up to. Also quite disconcertingly I felt Skulduggery's presence sort of fell off the page in this book. I just couldn't feel him there? Even his dialogue seemed a bit staged. Maybe it's a foreshadowing? I think other fans voice this feeling too. But hopefully it'll be back to its awesomeness in the next book!

Derek Landy is back with another gripping tale in the world of Skulduggery
and Valkyrie. True to form, it's filled with punching, puns, sarcastic
comments and, of course, more punching (with some car chases and kicking
thrown in for good measure). I'd recommend it for any lovers of fantasy,
action and adventure. Newcomers to tue series are cautioned to read the
other books in the series, as the story features a lot of references to
previous happenings.
