This is the 16th book in Dale Mayer's "The K9 Files" series and the heartwarming stories continue. Jenner Morrison wasn't sure about returning to Ashland Kentucky, he loved the area but the good memories of his childhood there were overshadowed by the bad memories of his ex wife sending him divorce papers out of the blue when he was serving abroad with the Navy. Laura was a self serving, devious go getter and was now married to the wealthiest and most powerful man in the area, Silas Kentrol......a man as old as her father, Jenner didn't miss her but he needed closure. Jenner put this behind him, he was there to find missing war dog Sisco who had disappeared from the radar. The B & B where Jenner was staying was run by sweet, attractive Kellie Spalding, Kellie was having a hard time as far as bookings were concerned which was surprising as Kellie was an excellent cook but the town was small and the small minded residents had long memories and they shunned Kellie for a mistake made in her youth. As the story unfolds a pack of wild dogs are terrorising the town and killing livestock, the useless, ineffective "shoot now ask questions later" Sheriff was out to shoot everyone of them, could Sisco be running with the pack ? who was squatting in the house next to the B&B ? why was someone impersonating Jim, the son of the deceased couple who had lived there ? Kellie and Jenner are lovely likeable characters, the natural attraction between them gradually escalated and romance blossomed. All the K9 series are heartwarming stories with angst, this one was no exception but it left me wondering if there might be another story there, in the meantime, I look forward to reading Rhys's story. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Jenner is hoping to not only find Sisco but also meet with his ex and put the past in the past, he doesn't expect a B&B owner that he wants to know better, nor the puzzle of next door. Jenner and Kellie are so natural together and you understand why they open up to each other while his ex well she is off the charts cray cray, then there is the way people treat not only Kellie but also Jenner that grinds my gears. There is more than tracking a war dog down and love in this book which is great!

Arriving in small town Ashland, Jenner did not mean to stir up a hornet's nest, but it seems that trouble finds him. It is easy to avoid his ex-wife because she is avoiding him too. However, Jenner cannot deny his attraction for Kellie, the owner of the B&B where he is staying, nor can he ignore the fact that she is in trouble. With an irresponsible Sherrif, a squatter, and wild dogs, Jenner has a hard time locating the missing War Dog Sisco.
